Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The 2006 Women's Soccer season came to a close on Sunday afternoon as UMass topped Duquesne 1-0. In spite of the win, the Minutewomen will not participate in the Atlantic 10 tournament as Fordham, the team three points ahead of the UMass in the sixth and final playoff spot, defeated Saint Joseph's.

As is fitting for the final game of the season and looking toward another, it was a rookie that put UMass on the board late in the game. Cristina Adams, playing in her 12th game of the year, tallied her first collegiate goal at 74:15, assisted by outgoing senior Stephanie Barrett.

The Minutewomen peppered Duquesne's Virginia Bondi in goal, as the keeper needed to make 14 saves in the contest. UMass' Kristin Walker made six saves in her seventh shutout of the season.

As noted, the collegiate careers of three UMass seniors came to a close, including Barrett, Nadia Villarroel and Elizabeth Weinsten. The trio combined for over 175 career games, and were all members of the Atlantic 10 academic honor roll, as well as the UMass Athletic Director's honor roll.
