Marsan And Brewster Finish Second In The Double At The Head Of The Charles

Boston, Mass. - UMass rowers Sarah Marsan and Hannah Brewster combined to finish second in the youth double event for women at The Head of the Charles regatta on Sunday. They finished second overall to a duo from the New York Athletic Club. They were, however, the best collegiate tandem. Their time of 19:22.336 was only behind that of Margaret Duggan and Sarah Bates of the NYAC. Beth Daunhauer and Kathryn Hagglur of the University of Louisville were third.
The varsity eight came in 36th in the women's championship competition. The United States Rowing Team won the race with a time o 15:36.733. Princeton was the highest collegiate eight in the race, coming in third with a time of 16:31.109. UMass' time was 17:28.031. The UMass boat featured rowers Gabrielle Papineau, Ellen Maskrey, Airlina Burrill, Haley Fitzgerald, Jaime Dicke, Erin Kelly, Kristen Boyce, and Tara Guinan. Dana Pulda was the coxswain.
Coaches Jim Dietz and Alex Binkowski also raced in singles competition. Dietz was in the men's grand masters (50+) and finished 23rd. Binkowski raced in the men's senior masters (40+) and took 21st.
