The Varsity 4 claimed gold

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The University of Massachusetts rowing team claimed bronze by finishing third at the 2025 Atlantic 10 rowing championship, with the UMass Varsity 4 boat leading the way with a gold medal showing. The Second Varsity 4 and Third Varsity 8 also won gold on the day.

COMPLETE RESULTS

"I'm proud of this team and the growth we saw throughout the 2024-25 season," head coach Eric Carcich said. "We didn't reach our ultimate goal this weekend but it would be a miss not to acknowledge the effort this unit put in this season and this championship weekend. Five races culminating in four medals is something to be proud of sending us into the summer months and we are eager to get fitter, faster and stronger preparing our inaugural MAC season. There is work to do ahead for sure but our staff is grateful for the efforts this group put in this year."

After cruising to the top time in morning heats, the UMass Varsity 4 followed up with an emphatic finals win, besting second-place George Washington by over 16 seconds (8:02.17) and third-place Rhode Island (8:08.43).

The UMass Second Varsity 8 then took bronze in its final (06:52.85), finishing behind Rhode Island (6:46.27) and George Washington (6:49.07).

With one race remaining, Rhode Island was in the lead with 25 points, followed by George Washington (24) and UMass (23). UMass went on to place fourth in the Varsity 8 final and third overall.

After the races, Arden Ross (First Team), Cielo Jacuzzi (First Team) and Alison Kolaga (Second Team) earned All-Atlantic 10 honors.

In non-scoring races, the Second Varsity 4 grabbed gold to kick off the finals session (8:16.69), while the Third Varsity 8 followed with gold of its own (7:33.51).
