Massachusetts Rowing Takes Part In The Knecht Cup

April 13, 2025 | Rowing

All four boats finished in the Top-10

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The University of Massachusetts rowing team took part in the 2025 Knecht Cup on the Cooper River over the weekend, with the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 both placing eighth, the Varsity 4 finishing 10th and the Second Varsity 4 grabbing second place.

"The Knecht Cup gave us a chance to test our new line ups against 20-30 crews in each of the four events we entered," explained head coach Eric Carcich. "The weather held out and racing was fair across the board. With five weeks to go, we do feel like we progressed this weekend but we all know there is work to be done at every level. The team and staff are excited to head into this off week to build our speed and prepare for our race against our future MAC conference foes. Can't wait."

On Saturday, the Second Varsity 4 captured first place in its heat to advance to Sunday's final.

Also on Saturday, the Varsity 8 placed second in its heat and then fourth in a competitive afternoon semifinal. The Second Varsity 8 placed second in its heat to narrowly miss a top-three finish in the semifinal, coming in fourth. The Varsity 4 finished fourth in both its heat and semifinal.

The Second Varsity 4 then opened Sunday with a second-place finish in the final (8:03.35), just behind MIT (7:59.96).

The Massachusetts Varsity 8 (6:53.23), Second Varsity 8 (7:14.31) and Varsity 4 (8:25.08) boats took place in Petite Final races on Sunday en route to their Top-10 finishes overall.
