Swimming & Diving Holds Annual End Of Season Banquet

AMHERST, Mass. - Nearly 200 University of Massachusetts swimming and diving alumni, friends, family, and student-athletes attended the program's end of season banquet as head coaches Bob Newcomb and Russ Yarworth named the men's and women's team award winners for the 2005 season.
Justin Zeimetz was named the men's swimming MVP for the second consecutive year, while Mary Jenkins was honored as the women's MVP. Last season, Jenkins was named the team's Rookie of the Year for her diving performances.
A.J. Vozella was named the Rookie of the Year and the Most Improved Swimmer, while Matt Woodward was given the Coaches Award. Jeremy Dam was honored with the Iron Man Award, Jake Hogue was named this season's S.T.U.D., and Owen Scollan was recognized with the Minuteman Award.
Also receiving recognition at the banquet were seniors Dylan Smith, Jad Vonderheid, Brandon Doane, and Ryan Matthews. All team members were presented with embroidered championship jackets in recognition of their championship season.
Scollan was also presented his award for being named Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Student Athlete of the Year.
Samantha Demty was named the women's Rookie of the Year, while Jay Yankowski was given the Minuteman Award.
Jackie Elwell was honored as the Most Improved Swimmer.
Greg Chartier, Mike Herald and Jake Hogue were named the men's captains for the 2005-06 season. Corey Tawczynski, Aimee Bourassa, and Kaitlyn McDonough were named as the captains for the women's team.
The weekend included a golf tournament, a bar-b-que, and a Chinese Raffle to help raise money for the two programs.
The next alumni event will be the Cape Cod Beach Weekend slated for August 5-7.
