AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving squad has earned Academic All-American distinction as announced by CollegeSwimming.com earlier this week.
The Minutewomen posted a 3.11 GPA during the fall 2004 semester and were ranked among 66 programs. UMass was one of five Atlantic 10 schools receiving the honor.
In July, the team was also honored by the College Swimming Coaches of America as an All-American squad as well.
Eight members of the squad were named to the Fall Semester Dean's List recording a 3.5 GPA or higher, while 19 posted 3.0 GPA's for the season.
Historically one of the top academic teams at UMass, the women's team posted the second highest GPA among all Massachusetts programs - just behind the women's track team - for the fall semester.
Sophomore diver Mary Jenkins was named to the Academic All-Conference Team after posting a 3.791 cumulative GPA to lead the Minutewomen.
