WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) - Zac Dahman completed 22 of 27 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns to lead Army a 34-27 win over Massachusetts on Saturday, giving the Black Knights their first three-game winning streak since 1996.
The victory against the Division I-AA Minutemen (7-3) gave the Black Knights (3-6) their first win at home this season and more victories than they managed last year.
Dahman's 10-yard touchdown pass to Walter Hill with 3:02 to play sealed the win. Jeremy Trimble caught seven passes for 86 yards and Scott Wesley had seven carries for 72 yards and one TD.
Liam Coen was 21-of-34 for 213 yards to lead Massachusetts, but was intercepted three times.
Coen's interception at the beginning of the fourth quarter led to an 11-yard TD run by Carlton Jones. Dahman's pass to Hill on the 2-point conversion gave the Black Knights a 27-20 lead.
The Minutemen came back to tie the game when they forced a fumble on fourth-and-one at the Army 37 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Shannon James picked up the fumble and ran it in for the TD.
Army responded with a 12-play, 61-yard drive capped by Hill's scoring grab.
Army took its first lead, 9-3, with 13:28 left in the first half when Wesley ran for a 46-yard score.
After UMass's next drive stalled, the Minutemen caught a break when Army pushed a Massachusetts defender into the receiving Wesley. The officials ruled the ball hit an Army player and Massachusetts' Jason Leonard recovered at the Army 24.
Steve Baylark's 17-yard run two plays later gave UMass a 10-9 lead. Baylark, who averaged 104 yards a game before Saturday, was held to 49 yards on 15 carries. He caught six passes for 24 yards.
The Black Knights went back in front 12-10 when Justin Koenig hit a 41-yard field goal with 1:24 left in the half.
Army started the second half with an 11-play, 64-yard drive capped by Dahman's 38-yard TD pass to Trimble.
UMass cut Army's lead to 19-17 when George Byrd blocked an Army punt and Bryan Haynes recovered it in the end zone.
The Minutemen took a 20-19 lead with 1:54 left in the third quarter when Cuko hit a 35-yard field goal to cap a 23-yard drive. He had a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter.
The Black Knights got their first safety since Sept. 23, 2000, when Coen slipped in his own end zone with 3 seconds left in the first quarter.
