AMHERST, Mass. - For the second-consecutive game, the University of Massachusetts shut out its opponent, blanking St. Bonaventure on Sunday by the score of 2-0. With the win, UMass is back at .500 overall with a 5-5-1 record, and remain unbeaten in A-10 play.
"We stayed patient today and had a lot of possessions, which was key to the win," said UMass head coach Jim Rudy. "We may have dodged a few bullets, but the chances are starting to bounce our way."
Patience was the key, as both teams were held scoreless through the first half, despite a 12-5 tilt in shots for the Minutewomen. UMass had a 25-10 advantage overall in the match. The game opened up even more when St. Bonaventure's Kristin Sotak was issued a red card at 48:37 for elbowing Lindsey Bellini. The Bonnies were a player down for the remainder of the contest.
"It was a definite advantage when Sotak went down with the red card," said Rudy. "I certainly haven't had to coach a player up in a long, long time."

That's not to say that Kristin Walker didn't see any action defensively, as the junior netminder made five saves for her career-high fifth shutout of the season. Walker and her counterpart, SBU's Lisa Eberhart, also got some help from the post, as both teams hit the goalposts twice in the contest.
Massachusetts was afforded five corner kicks in the game compared to St. Bonaventure's two. Fouls stood at nine SBU, five UMass.
The Minutewomen return to action next Saturday, Oct. 8, when they face Rhode Island on the road. Game time is set for 7 p.m. UMass returns home the weekend of Oct. 14 when they host Duquense and Saint Louis at Rudd Field.
