AMHERST, Mass. - UMass soccer player Nick Billman (St. Louis, Mo.) was named the men's soccer Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after helping the Minutemen to a 1-0 victory over New Hampshire last Saturday. It is the second straight week that a UMass player has won an A-10 weekly award after Ptah Myers (Columbus, Ohio) won Player of the Week last week.
Billman stopped a career-high six shots in UMass' 1-0 win over New Hampshire. The win over the region's No. 3-ranked team ended UNH's 14-game home winning streak, which was the sixth-longest in the nation. He currently has a 4-0-0 record with a 0.71 GAA and an .840 save percentage. His goals against average ranks second in the league and is among the nation's top 30.
Billman and his teammates will open Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend in Amherst with a Friday afternoon tilt against George Washington at 3:30 p.m. at Rudd Field. On Sunday, preseason A-10 favorite Richmond comes calling for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
