AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts senior swimmer Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.) has qualified for the NCAA Championships at Texas A&M in College Station Texas, on March 22-24. Brown is the first UMass swimmer to qualify for NCAAs in school-history.
Brown qualified in the 200 breast with a time of 1:58.66 placing first at the Atlantic 10 Championships and setting a new A-10 and school record. Brown will also compete in the 100 breast as his second place time of 55.98 at A-10s was good enough to qualify him.
"This means everything for our program," said head coach Russ Yarworth. "This is an amazing accomplishment for Billy and a huge step for the program."
Brown was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the Atlantic 10 Championships as he also won the 400 IM with a school-record time of 3:56.48. UMass won its fourth Atlantic 10 title on Feb. 15-17, the first since winning three in a row in 1996-98, as Yarworth was named A-10 Coach of the Year for the third time in his career.
