BOSTON, Mass. -- Boston University's Carl Corazzini scored a goal and added two assists to help the Terriers defeat the University of Massachusetts 5-1, in Hockey East action tonight at Walter Brown Arena.
Boston University took a 1-0 lead when Brian Collins netted his eighth of the season at 16:07 of the first period. That was the only scoring in the period.
In the second period, the Minutemen tied the game when sophomore Brad Nizwantowski (Peabody, Mass.) recorded his fifth goal of the season. Seniors Kris Wallis (Agassiz, British Columbia) and Jay Shaw (Cranston, R.I.) assisted on the goal at 15:56. With less than ten seconds remaining in the period, Boston University took a 2-1 lead when Corazzini scored on a two-man advantage.
Boston University took advantage of UMass penalties late in the second period and scored three times in the first five minutes of the third period. Jack Baker, John Cronin, and Collins each netted a goal.
Senior goaltender Markus Helanen (Vantaa, Finland) turned aside 24 Terrier shots, while Sean Fields of Boston University stopped 15 Minutemen shots.
UMass is now 7-17-3 overall and 6-10-1 in Hockey East, while the Terriers now stand at 11-12-2 overall and 8-7-2 in Hockey East.
The Minutemen return to action Saturday, February 3, when they travel to UMass Lowell. Game time is 7:00 p.m and will carried live on Fox Sports New England.
