LOWELL, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Minutemen fell to the River Hawks of UMass Lowell tonight, 4-1, in Hockey East action at the Tsongas Arena.

The River Hawks got on the board first when Ed McGrane scored the first of his two power play goals by slipping a backhander past UMass junior netminder Mike Johnson (Excelsior, Minn.) at the 15:47 mark of the first period. Brad Rooney and Yorick Treille each picked up assists on the play. They both finished the night with three assists apiece.

In the second period, McGrane recorded his tenth goal of the season when he tipped in a Treille pass past Johnson at 13:24.

UMass sophomore Tim Turner (Saginaw, Mich.) cut the lead in half on the power play when he beat River Hawks goalie Jimi St. John at 5:25 of the third period for his 14th goal of the year. Sophomore Samuli Jalkenen (Helsinki, Finland) and junior Martin Miljko (Etobicoke, Ontario) assisted on the play. Less than two minutes later, UMass Lowell regained their two goal advantage when Kyle Kidney beat Johnson. Darryl Green added another goal four minutes later to secure the victory.
