Massachusetts Hockey Announces Captains For 2026-27

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey senior forward Jack Musa and sophomore defenseman Coleson Hanrahan will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2026-27 season while junior defenseman Larry Keenan and senior forward Cam O'Neill will wear "A"s for the Minutemen, UMass head coach Greg Carvel announced on Wednesday.

"Successful teams almost always have a strong leadership group, and I believe this year's UMass hockey team will have exceptional leadership," said Carvel. "We had a large group of qualified and experienced players to choose from to serve as captains. But what makes me the most excited is that our group of leaders also play to our identity extremely well. This group will lead us into battle every game and will continue to be selfless and supportive teammates. All four captains have exhibited remarkable leadership skills and qualities while playing the game with great attention to detail, along with a standard level of compete."

Musa, a 2025-26 CCM/AHCA Hockey Second Team All-American, completed his junior campaign with a career-high 36 points on 16 goals and 20 assists over 34 games, a +14 rating, two power-play goals, two shorthanded goals and two game winners. The Second Team Hockey East All-Star and New England All-Star registered 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points in 22 Hockey East games, an average of 0.86 points per-game.

A native of Orange Park, Florida, Musa heads into his senior season with 100 points in 111 career games on 46 goals and 54 assists, ranking sixth in program history in career plus minus at +40.

Hanrahan, a Longmeadow, Massachusetts native, appeared in 31 games last season as a rookie after earning a spot in the lineup early in the 2025-26 campaign. He was +10 with 18 blocks and logged four assists as a freshman. He played in all 24 Hockey East matchups, helping the squad finish league play with the second-fewest goals allowed at 53.

Keenan, a first-time Hockey East All-Star in 2025-26, saw action in all 36 games and recorded 19 points (8g, 11a) with a +8 rating, two power-play goals, a shorthanded tally and 47 blocks as a sophomore. In Hockey East play, the Midhurst, Ontario native tallied five goals and nine assists for 14 points across 24 games. He enters his junior year with 30 career points (12g, 18a) and a +24 rating.

O'Neill registered 14 points on five goals and nine assists in 32 games during his junior campaign and was +7 with two game winners, which both came in Hockey East action. The Odenton, Maryland native had a total of 11 points (3g, 8a) in 22 league games. Thus far through three seasons in a UMass uniform, O'Neill has compiled 24 points on 10 goals and 14 assists over 88 games and is +8.
