Atlantic 10 Announces Women's Soccer All-Conference Team

PHILADELPHIA.- Seven University of Massachusetts women's soccer players were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team, as announced today in a vote conducted by the conferences head coaches. Seniors Brooke Bartlett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Sarah Cook (Cincinnati, Ohio) were named to the first team while seniors Julie Podhrasky (Dalles, Texas), Katelyn Jones (Round Lake, N.Y.) and Kathleen Machamer (Highland Ranch, Colo.) were selected to the second team. Freshmen Stephanie Santos (Ludlow, Mass.) and Carly Turman (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) were selected to the All-Rookie team.
Bartlett earned first team honors for the second consecutive season, scored two goalsthis season and assisted on eight others as the Minutewomen finished the 2001 season with a 10-6 mark. She finished her career with 30 assists,which tied her for second on the UMass all-time list. She was also selected as WHMP/UMass Athlete of the Week in mid September.
Cook, a team captain for the Maroon and White, was an All-Conference selection last season. She was the leader of the UMass defense that allowed only 1.37 goals per game in 2001.
Podhrasky, the 2000 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, recorded 66 saves and four shutouts this season. Her 133 career saves during her two year career ranks fifth on the UMass all-time saves chart.
Jones ranked second on the team in scoring with six goals and four assists for 16 points this season.
Machamer doubled her point output from last season, recording four goals and six assists in 2001. She also earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors earlier this season.
Santos led all UMass players in scoring with 19 points (seven goals and five assists), including two game-winning goals. She was selected as WHMP/UMass Athlete of the Week and Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week twice this season.
Turman, who scored three goals and recorded an assist , played on a UMass defense that held opponents to 1.37 goals per game.
