SYRACUSE HANDS UMASS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - Syracuse's Erica Mastrogiacomo scored the only goal of the game 38 minutes into the contest and goalkeeper Katie Karlander stopped six UMass shots as the Orangemen (2-0) beat the Minutewomen (2-1) 1-0 Monday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Katelyn Jones (Round Lake, N.Y.) led UMass with four of its nine shots. Syracuse finished with 12 shots, three of which UMass junior goalkeeper Julie Podhrasky (Dallas, Texas) recorded saves on.
The Minutewomen host the UMass Classic, with Georgia, Long Island, and Fairfield taking part, next Friday and Sunday (Sept. 8 & 10) at Totman Field. UMass will play Georgia at 4:00 p.m. Friday and Long Island at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
