Men's Soccer Set To Open Atlantic 10 Play

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team (4-3-1) will kick off Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend when it hosts St. Bonaventure (3-5-0, 1-0-0 A-10) on Friday at 3:30 p.m., and Duquesne (3-5-1, 0-1-0 A-10) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., at Totman Field. UMass went 8-3 last season in A-10 play and finished tied for third in the conference.
The Minutemen have been led by sophomore Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) who leads the team in scoring with five goals and was recently named the A-10 Player of the Week, while sophomore Yuri Morales (Santa Cruz, Calif.) is second on the team in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points. Junior goalie Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) has played every minute so far for UMass with 26 saves and a 1.08 goals against average.
St. Bonaventure is coming off a 3-0 win over Canisius and has an offense that is led by Sean Kelty's two goals and four assists. Duquesne is coming off a 3-0 loss to Navy and is led by goalie Terry McNelis who has a 1.05 goals against average ranking him second in the A-10 in this category. David Gingrich and Dan Hartung each have two goals and an assist for the Dukes.
UMass holds a 8-2-0 all-time series advantage over St. Bonaventure and a 4-1-0 advantage over Duquesne.
