Umass Men's Swimming Qualified Two For Olympic Trials

BUFFALO, N.Y. - After three days of competition, the University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team has come away with third place at the 2000 Atlantic 10 tournament. They finished fourth in last year's competition.
Billy Brown (Fullerton, CA) and Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass) both qualified for Olympic Trials. Arsenault qualified in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:38.41. He won the event. His time was good for Olympic Trials, NCAA Championship consideration, a new Atlantic 10 Conference record, and a new UMass school record. Arsenault also won the 100 free with a 45.44.
Brown achieved his Trials cut while winning the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes. He swam a 55.73 in the 100 and a 2:00.09 in the 200. Like Arsenault, his times were good for Olympic Trials, NCAA Championship consideration, new Atlantic 10 Conference records, and new UMass school records.
Other winning swims came from the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:22.7) and the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:03.59). The 200 was swum by Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, CA), Henry Turner (Melrose, Mass), Joe Martin (Naugatuck, Conn), and Arsenault. The 400 was swum by Matt Woodfield (Naugatuck, Conn), Chad Arnold (Mohnton, PA), and Arsenault.
Head Coach Russ Yarworth was voted Coach of the Year. This is second time winning the honor.
Top Three Finishers: Virginia Tech 729.50, St. Bonaventure 613.50, Umass 544.50
