AMHERST, Mass. -- Senior Matt Christy (Paxton, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game at the 76:48 mark as the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team (10-5-2, 6-1-1 A 10) defeated Xavier (4-12-0, 4-4-0 A-10), 1-0, this afternoon in Atlantic 10 soccer action at Totman Field.
Christy scored off a corner kick from senior Benny Hoffman (Allentown, Pa.) to give UMass the win. The Minutemen outshot the Musketeers, 13-8.
UMass junior goalie Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) made four saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season and his fifth in Atlantic 10 play. His six shutouts is tied for second for a single-season at UMass. Xavier goalie Paul Wesseling made four saves in the loss.
The Minutemen return to action on Friday, Oct. 27, when they travel to the Bronx, N.Y., to take on Fordham at 2:00 p.m.
