WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sophomore forward Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass) scored at the 34:11 mark as the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team defeated George Washington, 1-0, in Atlantic 10 soccer action this afternoon. UMass is now 8-4-2 overall (4-0-1 A-10) on the season, while the Colonials fall to 7-4-2 (4-2 A-10).
Deren scored off a rebound of a save by George Washington goalie Nick Parypinski. Deren leads the team in scoring with seven goals on the season.
UMass junior goalie Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) made four saves earning his fourth shutout of the season. The Minutemen out shot the Colonials 16-13, including an 11-2 advantage in the first half.
The Minutemen return to action on Oct. 18, when they travel to Kingston, R.I., to take on Rhode Island at 7:00 p.m.
