Women's Swimming and Diving Improves to 2-0

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts women?s swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 in dual-meet competition this season with a 166-99 victory over Central Connecticut this afternoon. Senior Elizabeth Risotto (Setauket, N.Y.) claimed victory in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events. Risotto won the 100-y back in a time of 59.48. Her time of 2:07.29 in the 200-y back set a new Central Connecticut pool record. Junior Sarah Newell (Dillsburg, Pa.) won the 100-y breaststroke in a time of 1:10.63. Sophomore Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) was victorious in the 50-y freestyle in a time of 25.68. Freshmen Lauren Bulkeley (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Maggie Curry (Mukwonago, Wis.) posted victories in their respective events. Bulkeley won the 100-y butterfly in 1:00.32, and Curry won the 1000-y free in 10:52.76. In diving, freshman Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) posted her first career victory on the one-meter board with a score of 222.05. Junior Robin Velona (Belmont, Mass.) won the three-meter event with a score of 202.15.
The Minutewomen return to the pool this Thursday at 1:00 p.m. when they host Northeastern.
