Tom Pereira begins his first season at UMass, coming to Amherst from his alma mater, Westfield State where he assisted in guiding the Owls women[apos]s soccer team to a 16-2-2 record last season. The squad won both the MASCAC regular and postseason championships in 2009 and captured a NCAA tournament berth.

Before making his return to Westfield, Pereira was the girls[apos] varsity coach at Frontier Regional High School in South Deerfield, Mass., from 1999-2008. At Frontier, his teams posted an aggregate record of 156-27-15 and won nine league championships, while qualifying for the postseason in all 10 years of his tenure. Pereira holds an NSCAA advanced national diploma, as well as Level I & II goalkeeping diplomas.

He has also served as assistant coach of the Western United FC U-17 boys[apos] team.


 A Westfield native, he graduated from Saint Mary[apos]s High School and from Westfield State College in 1997, playing varsity soccer at both schools.
