Chelsea Plimpton enters her fourth season as the pitching coach with the Minutewomen after previously coaching at Towson, Fordham and Marist.
In 2018, Plimpton helped coach freshman Kiara Oliver to an Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year honor as the UMass pitching staff put together a 2.37 ERA compared to a 3.05 ERA the season prior. Oliver finished with a perfect 11-0 mark and a 0.77 ERA in A-10 play on her way to leading the league in wins with 18 and strikeouts with 173.
Under Plimpton’s tutelage in 2017, junior right-hander Meg Colleran was named first-team All-Atlantic-10 after earning second-team distinction team in 2016. Colleran was named the 2017 A-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player as she pitched 35.1 of UMass’ 36.1 innings over five games played. She struck out 18 total batters while walking just five. She concluded the season with a 20-14 record, throwing 22 complete games with an ERA of 2.60. She struck out 119 batters, walked 38 and allowed 186 hits in 201.2 innings pitched. She ranked No. 5 in opposing batting average (.233) and No. 2 in wins (17) in league play.
Before her arrival in Amherst, Plimpton served as pitching coach at Towson for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons. She spent the 2013 season as an assistant at Fordham, where she was part of a coaching staff that led the Rams to an Atlantic 10 Tournament title. Plimpton spent the 2012 season on the softball staff at Marist.
As a player for the Rams, Plimpton finished with a 40-16 lifetime record and was third in both career shutouts and strikeouts at Fordham. She’s a 2011 Fordham graduate with a degree in communications and media studies.
