Republican: UMass basketball coach Derek Kellogg prepares to help with tornado relief

The University of Massachusetts men's basketball program will become involved with tornado relief in Springfield, coach Derek Kellogg said on Thursday.

A native of Springfield and 1991 graduate of Cathedral High School, Kellogg has stayed in close touch with his hometown since returning as UMass coach in 2008. His players have frequently visited community centers, clubs and the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Now, UMass is preparing to help with relief efforts after Wednesday's tornado devastation. The effort will likely be coordinated with the Hall of Fame, he said.
