AMHERST, Mass. – UMass head men's basketball coach Frank Martin announced on Thursday the hiring of Scott Holsopple as the program's newest Sports Performance Coach. A strength and conditioning professional with 28 years of experience leading basketball and football performance programs, Holsopple comes to Amherst from Tennessee State where he served as Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance.

"I feel truly blessed and highly favored to join the UMass men's basketball program," said Holsopple. "This opportunity means a great deal to me, and I'm excited to be part of a program with such a rich tradition and bright future. I look forward to working with Coach Frank Martin, the staff and our student-athletes as we pursue excellence every day. I'm honored to be a Minuteman and grateful for the opportunity to serve this university and community."

Over his career, Holsopple has coached numerous athletes, including Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, Mike Pouncey, Maurice Pouncey, Jake Heaps, Dwyane Wade, Joe Crawford and Jody Meeks.

"I'm so excited to introduce Scott Holsopple to the UMass basketball family," said Martin. "Scott is a veteran who has trained NCAA Final Four teams at Marquette, the basketball team at Kentucky and NCAA Championship football teams at the University of Florida. He brings a wealth of knowledge and a great demeanor to help our athletes achieve the pinnacle of who they can be athletically."

While at Tennessee State, Holsopple managed the football and Olympic sports strength and conditioning programming, overseeing athlete development, speed training, conditioning and injury-prevention systems. He helped develop championship culture, accountability systems and leadership initiatives. In 2024, Tennessee State advanced to the 2024 FCS Playoffs.

Holsopple's prior stop was the University of New Mexico as Director of Sports Performance from 2019-20, designing and implanting comprehensive programs for the Lobos football team.

He was previously at Georgia State from 2015-19, directing football sports performance operations during the program's growth years. While there, Holsopple helped the Panthers prepare for the AutoNation Cure Bowl, winning the first bowl game in school history.

Holsopple served as Director of Football Strength & Conditioning at Kansas from 2012-15. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Director of Football Strength & Conditioning at Florida, playing an important role in the Gators' 2008 BCS National Champion and back-to-back 13-1 teams. While in the Sunshine State, he helped develop numerous NFL athletes, including Heisman Trophy winner Tim Teblow.

Holsopple's first three positions came at Penn State as Assistant Football Strength Coach (1998-00), then Marquette as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach (2001-06) and Kentucky in the same role for basketball (2006-07). At Marquette, Holsopple worked with Wade, a future Basketball Hall of Famer, as the Golden Eagles advanced to the 2003 Final Four.

Holsopple earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Penn State in 2000, garnering All-America honors as a boxer while at Penn State.
