Junjie Wang Joins Men’s Basketball Program as Transfer

Wang comes to Amherst from the University of San Francisco
AMHERST, Mass. – The Massachusetts men's basketball team announced the signing of San Francisco transfer Junjie Wang. The 6-foot-9 forward from Xuzhou, China started 48 games over the past two seasons as a key contributor for the Dons out of the West Coast Conference.
"Barry Wang is going to be a tremendous addition to our program," said head coach Frank Martin. "After spending three years of San Francisco and playing for the Chinese national team, he's going to add a combination of size, skill and physicality that will be extremely beneficial for our team in our style of play."
Last season as a junior, he averaged 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 33 games (24 starts), shooting 42.6% from the field, 34.2% from 3-point range and 75.3% from the free throw line. He finished with 12 double-figure scoring efforts, 10 of which came in conference play. Wang had 15 or more points four times, including a career-high 27 points in a 80-60 win at Pepperdine. In that game, he registered career highs in a number of categories, including field goals made (10), 3-pointers made (7) and minutes (34). Wang had a double-double, the second of his career, with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, against San Diego.
Wang appeared in 20 games for San Francisco as a freshman, averaging 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds.
Before college, Wang enrolled in the NBA's Global Academy, an elite basketball training center at Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, Australia. He trained alongside top international prospects from around the world. Wang also participated in Basketball Without Borders Global 2023 in Salt Lake City as part of NBA All-State 2023. He has multiple other international basketball experiences as well, also competing for the Chinese U15 National Team where he averaged 18.7 points per game with the team.

As a s sophomore, Wang started 24 of 33 games played, averaging 6.2 points and 3.3 rebounds. Among the highlights was 16 points against Washington State.
