AMHERST, Mass. – Sam Perry of baseball and Kassidy Morris of women's lacrosse tabbed UMass Student-Athletes of the Week honors, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union. The duo will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon this week.
The luncheon takes place on Wednesday, May 6, at noon in the Berkshire Room of the Berkshire Dining Commons. Cost to attend is $17 (15.30 for UMass Alumni).
Perry picked up his second win of the season after allowing one hit, no runs, three walks and striking out a career-high seven in 6.1 innings of work to help the team to a 1-0 shutout over Ohio. As the freshman took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, Perry and the Minutemen stymied the Ohio offense throughout the contest after scoring the lone run in the bottom of the first. It marked his third straight game pitched he has not allowed a run scored.
Morris enjoyed another strong weekend, tallying 10 points over the two MAC Tournament games behind eight goals and two assists, to help UMass to the MAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. She was named to the All-Tournament Team and named Tournament MVP. She began with four goals and two assists in a 14-5 win over Robert Morris in the MAC Semifinals. Morris went on to score four goals in the championship game against defending MAC Tournament Champion Akron, despite being face guarded. Morris has 12 straight games with multiple goals, tallying a hat trick in 11 of them. She is up to 101 points on the season to tie her own program record set last season.
