Minutewomen Outlast Buffalo 3-2
April 07, 2026 | Softball
AMHERST, Mass. — The University of Massachusetts softball team (12-21, 4-9 MAC) outlasted Buffalo (17-21, 6-7 MAC) 3-2 on a frigid April day. Stellar defense play and an another strong showing from Hannah Streicher in the circle gave the Minutewomen their second consecutive victory.
Streicher was a force on the bump, allowing just six hits, holding the Bulls hitless for 3.0 innings.
Offensively, Lille Scheivert and Odyssey Torres led the charge with two hits each, with Schievert recording two RBI's in the contest and a double. Brooke Musch, Grace Colucci and Tiegan Walsh each recorded a hit, with Colucci drawing two walks in the matchup.
The Minutewomen struck first in the bottom of the opening frame, as Riain Keefe drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Musch. With two outs, Scheivert singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Keefe from second to take an early 1-0 lead.
Massachusetts added in the bottom of the third, as a Torres single and Scheivert double plated the second run of the game, and handed the Minutewomen a 2-0 advantage.
The Bulls struck back in the top of the fourth inning, as Bri Delaney roped a double to left center, and advanced to third on a groundout on the following plate appearance. A deep fly to center field proved to be long enough to score Delaney from third, cutting the lead in half, 2-1.
Massachusetts plated its third run in the bottom of the fourth, on a double steal with runners at the corner. Woodworth entered a rundown between first and second, stalling long enough to score Colucci from third before being tagged out. The run gave the Minutewomen a 3-1 lead after four innings played.
In the top of the sixth, Eliana Raposo entered as a defensive replacement in left field, and immediately made her presence known. After a leadoff double, Raposo laid out to make a diving catch. On the ensuing at bat, a single through the infield made its way to Raposo again, but a strong throw to the plate prevented the runner from advancing past third. Following a flyout to center, Raposo made her second diving catch of the inning in foul territory, holding the Bulls off the board.
Buffalo did not go down easy, as Reagan Terwilliger hit a double in the left field gap and later scored on another double to cut the deficit to 3-2. A two out pop out to Lily Woodworth at second base ended the game.
Hannah Streicher (7-9) picked up the win for the Minutewomen, allowing just two runs on six hits, four walks and four strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Genevieve Longsdorf (7-6) was handed the loss for the Bulls, allowing three runs on seven hits, five walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
The Minutewomen return to action for a doubleheader finale against Buffalo on April 8, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
