Massachusetts Baseball Drops Midweek Matchup To Stonehill

The Minutemen prepare for a three-game MACtion series at Ball State with the first game on Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m.
UMass moved to 12-21 overall, while Stonehill improved to 15-20 on the season.
Anthony Tirado, Gavin O'Brien and Ryan Kolben all tallied two hits on the day, including a double for Tirado. Marc Willi and Kevin Schnupp had one hit each, which included a double for Willi and Schnupp's first career triple. Tirado led with three RBI, as Willi recorded one. Five Minutemen each scored a run on the day.
Stonehill grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single.
Massachusetts got on the board in the bottom half of the second to claim a 3-1 lead. Reece McCarthy led off with a walk before Willi doubled to right field with McCarthy sliding home to tie the game at 1-1. With one out, back-to-back walks loaded up the bases. Tirado then doubled to the left field wall to drive home Willi and Matt Travisano to take the lead.
The Skyhawks pushed across three more runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Stonehill added four more in the top of the fourth to extend its lead, 8-3.
Minutemen get a run back off a sacrifice fly from Tirado as Schnupp came home in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit in half, 8-4.
Stonehill added another off an error in the sixth before a sacrifice fly in the seventh gave the Skyhawks a 10-4 lead. In the eighth, Skyhawks tack on another run, 11-4.
UMass pushed across a run on a fielding error with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to make it an 11-5 game.
The Skyhawks pull ahead, 12-5, with a solo home run and came away with the win.
Jack Levine (1-3) took the loss for Massachusetts, giving up four runs on six hits, two walks and striking out five in 2.2 innings.
Hunter Bell (1-1) had the win for Stonehill, going three complete innings with only two hits allowed, no runs, a walk and two strikeouts.
Massachusetts returns to Mid-American Conference play for a three-game series at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana, on Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26. First pitch Friday is slated for 3 p.m. Both the Saturday and Sunday game will start at 1 p.m.
