The Minutewomen record their fifth sweep of the season.
AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 62- ranked University of Massachusetts tennis team took down the University of New Haven, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center. It marks the fifth sweep for the Minutewomen this season.
Massachusetts picked up the doubles point with wins at courts No. 1 and No. 3. Partners Ella Faessler and Renata Farima defeated Pierina Lescher and Victoria Togores of New Haven, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot. Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich grabbed the point with a 6-0 win over New Haven's Sofia Lazaro and Micaela Rosignuolo at the No. 3 position.
UMass continued its momentum into singles competition, as Faessler secured the first point with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Togores of New Haven at court No. 2. Tye made it a 3-0 match after taking down New Haven's Valentinna Ferrarini, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Fiona Ao clinched the match point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lazaro of New Haven at the No. 4 slot.
Pavissich, Markevica and Amanda de Oliveira all led at courts No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6, respectfully, before the match came to a halt.
The Minutewomen begin Mid-American Conference play on Friday, March 13, hosting Bowling Green at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center in Amherst.
