Tennis Downs Bowling Green, 6-1, To Open MAC Play

A team effort helps the Minutewomen to its first MAC win of the season.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis took down Bowling Green State University, 6-1, on Friday afternoon to open Mid-American Conference play at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
The Minutewomen improve to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the MAC, while Bowling Green moves to 6-7 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Earning the doubles point, Massachusetts had wins at courts No. 3 and No. 1. Partners Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich defeated Konstantina Adamopoulou and Leticia Fonesca of Bowling Green, 6-2, first at the No. 3 slot. The duo of Ella Faessler and Renata Farima clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 1 over Bowling Green's Tia Clemens and Qianya Liu.
The Minutewomen continued strong play into singles competition. UMass grabbed two quick points to make it a 3-0 match, as Faessler downed Clemens of Bowling Green, 6-0, 6-3, before Amelia Tye defeated Bowling Green's Liu, 6-1, 6-1, at courts No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Fiona Ao secured a 6-1, 7-5, triumph at No. 4 singles over Libby Blair of the Falcons to give Massachusetts a 4-0 advantage.
Bowling Green's Kiera Taylor won, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 3 position over Pavissich, but Farima earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Fonesca of Bowling Green at the No. 6 slot. Markevica concluded the match with a three-set triumph over the Falcons' Adampoulou, 6-0, 3-6, 11-9.
The Minutewomen welcome Eastern Michigan to Amherst on Sunday, March 15, for an 11 a.m. match at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
