Massachusetts Tennis Picks Up Fifth Straight Victory Over Stony Brook

The Minutewomen swept the Seawolves, 4-0.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis earned its fifth straight triumph after taking down Stony Brook, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
The victory improved the Minutewomen to 7-1 overall on the year.
UMass picked up the doubles point with wins at courts No. 3 and No. 2. Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich defeated Stony Brook's Mila Charles and Laura Ozola, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles, before Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye took down Sanjana Devineni and Mia Palladino, 6-1, at No. 2.
Ella Faessler and Renata Farima led 5-2 at court No. 1 before the doubles competition came to a halt.
Continuing momentum in singles play, the Minutewomen tallied three straight points. Pavissich downed Paisha Douglas of Stony Brook, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 3 slot, before Fiona Ao won 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Stony Brook's Devineni at the No. 4 position. Faessler clinched the match point at No. 1 singles with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(10) victory over Elena Lobo-Corral of Stony Brook.
Tye was leading 7-5, 5-7, 3-2 at No. 2 and Markevica was ahead in one game 6-4, 2-3 at No. 5, before the match came to a conclusion.
Massachusetts travels to Hanover, New Hampshire, on Sunday, March 1, to face Dartmouth at 2 p.m.
