#19 Massachusetts Hockey Blanks New Hampshire, 4-0
February 20, 2026 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. – A trio of first period goals helped carry No. 19 Massachusetts hockey to a 4-0 win over New Hampshire on Friday night in front of 7,216 at the Mullins Center. With the victory, the Minutemen improve to 18-11-0, 11-8-0 in Hockey East, while the Wildcats drop to 12-16-1 and 6-12-1 in league action.
"That was a great start to the game after being off two weeks, said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "I'm really happy with how we started and scored on the first shift. It was a great first period. I didn't like our second period, we got sloppy, and they started to win battles. I was really happy with our start, really happy with our strong defensive play, and really happy we scored a power play goal. I think that's the first one in 2026."
Just 41 seconds in, UMass opened the scoring with freshman Lukáš Klecka's eighth goal of the season. Senior Lucas Ölvestad started the breakout out of the defensive end and Owen Murray curled around the UNH net and found Klecka in front for the finish.
Sophomore Larry Keenan then pushed the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal from freshman Václav Nestrašil and sophomore Francesco Dell'Elce with a quick wrister from the right faceoff circle at the 6:08 mark.
Then 15:01 into the frame, junior Bo Cosman hammered home a one-timer on an odd-man break from classmate Cam O'Neill and Dell'Elce to make it 3-0.
Dell'Elce capped the scoring at the 4:07 mark in the third period, his third point of the night, walking in to the top of the left faceoff circle with the puck and picking a corner. Keenan and Klecka earned the helpers on the tally.
UMass ended the night with a 29-21 shot advantage and went 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Michael Hrabal totaled 21 saves in his fourth shutout of the season and eighth of his career. It also marked the junior's 50th career win, tying him for second all-time in program history. Kyle Shauvette had 25 stops for the Wildcats.
The teams will be back in action tomorrow night, February 21, at the Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
