Ölvestad Helps Massachusetts Hockey Complete Sweep Of UVM With 1-0 Win
January 24, 2026 | Hockey
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior Lucas Ölvestad scored the only goal of the night to help Massachusetts hockey complete its weekend sweep with a 1-0 victory at Vermont on Saturday night. With the win, the Minutemen's fifth straight, the squad improves to 14-10-0, 7-7-0 in Hockey East, while the Catamounts fall to 9-14-0, 6-9-0 in league action.
Scoring chances were few and far between for both teams through the first 40 minutes of action with Vermont holding a narrow 11-10 advantage in shots. Sebastian Törnqvist's breakaway chance exiting the penalty box was denied by UMass goaltender Michael Hrabal midway through the second and Cam Dunn found himself alone in the slot with under five minutes to play in the frame, but Aiden Wright was there to make the stop.
Hrabal continued his stellar work between the pipes for the Minutemen in the third, thwarting a wrap around attempt early in the frame and fending off a flurry of UVM chances around the 11-minute mark. That series for the Catamounts included a shot that glanced post and crossbar before being swallowed up by Hrabal's pads.
Ölvestad broke up the scoreless deadlock 13:40 into the third as he crashed the net to finish off a centering feed from freshmen Justin Kerr and Lukáš Klecka. The tally marked Ölvestad's third in as many games and third point of the weekend against UVM.
The Catamounts threatened to level the score with the period winding down, but Hrabal was there to stop a 2-on-1 with five minutes to go and held strong with the extra attacker on for Vermont in the final 1:54 of the contest.
UMass ended the night with a 23-22 edge in shots on goal and both teams were 0-for-1 on the power play.
Hrabal totaled 22 saves in his second straight shutout. His current shutout streak, 161:25 minutes, is the longest by a Minuteman netminder since Filip Lindberg ended his collegiate career with a shutout streak of 162:46 en route to a national championship.
UMass will return to action next Friday, January 30, when the squad will play host to Northeastern at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center.
