Massachusetts Women’s Track and Field Continues Indoor Season With Big Performance At Beantown Challenge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team had a big weekend at the Beantown Challenge on Saturday in Cambridge, with nine Minutewomen placing in the top five and two securing medals.
Highlights from Competition:
- Jaliyah Burns took fifth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 54'6.75". First-year Coco Van Nyatten rounded out the top eight with a distance of 52'1.25".
- Shakira Cadet placed fourth in the women's long jump with a leap of 18'7.25". Bridget Lee took seventh with a jump of 17'10.25".
- Maia Perillo finished tied for seventh in the women's pole vault, clearing a height of 11'11.5.75.
- Jennifer Williams ran the eighth-fastest time in the women's 60m hurdles preliminary, crossing the finish line in 8.85 to qualify for the finals. In the final heat, Williams took seventh overall with a time of 8.86.
- Agnes Thundal placed fourth in the women's mile, finishing in 4:54.90. The trio of Lara Mannes Diaz de Cerio (6th), Allison Chmielewski (8th) and Leann Lombardi (10th) also placed in the top-10 with times of 4:57.82, 5:02.20 and 5:06.43, respectively.
- Shakira Cadet took gold in the women's triple jump, surpassing the 40' mark for the first time in her collegiate career with a leap of 40'0.25". Ruth Michel took silver with a hop-skip-jump of 39'3".
- Eve Segal finished ninth in the women's shot put with a toss of 41'3.25".
- Ashley Johnson and Ingibjorg Sigurdardottir placed back-to-back in the women's 500m run, taking fifth and sixth place with times of 1:15.35 and 1:15.61, respectively.
- Tesaira Williams tied for fifth in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 5'5".
- Ingibjorg Sigurdardottir, Jennifer Williams, Leila Metres and Ashley Johnson combined to run a 3:57.10, claiming bronze in the women's 4x400y relay.
