Dell’Elce Named To Hockey East All-Rookie Team, Minutemen Earn Sportsmanship Award

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey freshmen defenseman Francesco Dell'Elce has been named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, the league announced on Wednesday. As a team, the Minutemen have also garnered the Charlie Holt Sportsmanship Award for the third time in the past five seasons.

Dell'Elce posted 11 points on 1 goal and 10 assists through 24 Hockey East games and was +2 with 27 blocks. Overall on the season as UMass' top scoring defenseman he has posted 22 points (6g, 16a) and is +13 with one power-play goal, two game winners and 33 blocks.

Established in 1992, the Charles E. Holt Sportsmanship Award, named after the former University of New Hampshire head coach, is given to the team which receives the lowest average penalty minutes per-game over the course of regular season Hockey East play. The Minutemen have earned the award for the third time in the past five years – and fifth time in program history – with an average of 6.7 penalty minutes per-game during conference action in 2024-25. UMass previously received the distinction in 2021-22 (7.58 PIM/gm), 2020-21 (9.5 PIM/gm), 2001-02 (11.8 PIM/gm) and 2006-07 (10.8 PIM/gm).
