Setting the Scene
University of Massachusetts baseball returns to the diamond for its season opener to take on Bethune-Cookman for a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida. First pitch is set for Friday, February 21, at 7 p.m., before a 6 p.m. contest on Saturday, February 22. The Minutemen and Wildcats will take the field on Sunday, February 23, at 1 p.m. for the final game of the series.
UMass finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 24-29, including a 13-11 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Minutemen made an A-10 Tournament appearance for the first time since 2012, clinching the No. 6-seed.
A solid mix of returners and newcomers compose the 2025 edition of the Minutemen as the squad begins its 142nd season. Twenty-two members of the team are back from the 2024 campaign, while 13 players join for their first season in Amherst, including 10 freshen and three transfers.
All-Time vs. Bethune-Cookman
The Minutemen and the Wildcats will meet for the first time in program history.
On A Roll…
Carter Hanson heads into the 2025 season with a current hit streak of five games, followed by Matt Travisano and Jack Beverly on a one-game streak.
Hanson holds a team-leading 17-game reached base streak heading into the first series of the year. Michael Toth has a four-game reached base streak, followed by Jack Peters with two games and Travisano, Beverly and Sam Hill with one game.
Keeping it in the Family
The 2025 season marks the 59th straight campaign that Massachusetts baseball will have an alumnus of the Flagship campus as head coach. Eighth-year skipper Matt Reynolds is a double graduate (2005, '10G), and was preceded by fellow alumni Mike Stone '82 (1988-2017) and Dick Bergquist '57 (1967-87).
This is the second longest active streak across Division I baseball. Only BYU (62 consecutive seasons) has been led by an alum of its campus for a longer period.
On Deck
Massachusetts heads to Hanover, Maryland, for a three-game series against Coppin State on Friday, February 28 through Sunday, March 2. Friday is slated for a 3 p.m. start, with both Saturday and Sunday's games beginning at 1 p.m.
