Massachusetts Claims Convincing 92-74 Win Over Brown In Exhibition Action

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Massachusetts basketball claimed a convincing 92-74 win over Brown in exhibition action on Sunday evening at Pizzitola Sports Center. The Minutemen had five players score in double figures and shot 51.9 percent from 3-point range as a team. 
 
Marcus Banks Jr. led the way for the Minutemen in their first dress rehearsal of the season, scoring 24 points while shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from deep.  The graduate student also tallied two steals and two assists on the evening. 
 
Senior Daniel Hankins-Sanford was productive, totaling 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field. Leonardo Bettiol, Danny Carbuccia and K'Jei Parker each tallied 10 points, shooting a combined 46.4 percent as a group. Carbuccia recorded a team-high five assits in his collegiate debut. 
 
Dimitri Clerc totaled six points and a team-high two blocks on 16 minutes of action.  
 
The Bears were led by Adrian Uchidiuno who scored 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. 
 
Breaking Down The Action 
  • Massachusetts opened the scoring as Daniel Hankins-Sanford sunk a layup 57 seconds into the first half. 
  • Malcolm Wrisby-Jefferson responded quickly for the Bears finding the basket to make it 2-2 with 19:11 remaining. 
  • A pair of 3-pointers from Marcus Banks Jr. and Hankins-Sanford powered a 12-5 Massachusetts run over the next 4:13 to give the Minutemen a 14-7 lead. 
  • Brown responded with an 11-3 run of their own, capped by a three-pointer from Adrian Uchidiuno to give the bears a 18-16 advantage with 10:17 left in the first half. 
  • K'Jei Parker and Wrisby-Jefferson traded baskets to tie the game at 20-20 with 9:00 on the clock. 
  • The Bears reclaimed the lead, going on a 9-2 run to make the score 27-22 with 5:54 to play in the first half. 
  • Jeremiah Jenkins sunk a three-pointer with 3:20 on the clock to extend the Brown lead to 34-27. 
  • A pair of free throws from Uchidiuno gave Brown a 36-28 advantage, its largest lead of the night. 
  • Donovan Brown hit a mid-range jumper to send Massachusetts into the halftime break with the score 38-33 in favor of Brown. 
  • Banks Jr. capped a 7-2 Massachusetts run with a four-point play to tie the game at 40-40 just 1:27 into the second half. 
  • Seven points from Banks Jr. and Leonardo Bettiol sparked an 11-5 run over the next 3:35 to give Massachusetts a 51-45 lead, one which it would never relinquish. 
  • Danny Carbuccia scored eight unanswered points to provide Massachusetts with its first double-digit lead, 59-47, with 13:03 left in the second half. 
  • The Bears used 10 points from Jenkins and Uchidiuno to fuel a 12-3 run that cut the Massachusetts lead to 66-59 with 8:42 remaining. 
  • Banks Jr. hit three consecutive shots from deep to extend the Massachusetts advantage back out to 77-64 with 5:08 on the clock. 
  • Isaiah Placide scored five points in the final 58 seconds to give Massachusetts its largest lead of the night, 92-71, with 22 seconds remaining. 
  • Jonah Drezner made the game's final basket, making the score 92-74 in favor of the Minutemen. 
 
Newcomer Notifications 
  • 10 newcomers saw action on the evening, with Marcus Banks Jr., Leonardo Bettiol and K'Jei Parker entering as starters. 
  • Banks Jr. led all scorers with 24 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field
