Clococeanu, Pedolzky and van Herwijnen Earn UMass Student-Athletes of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts field hockey graduate student Elena Clococeanu, junior Myrte van Herwijnen and women's soccer senior Chandler Pedolzky received UMass Five Student-Athletes of the Week honors, as announced on Tuesday.
The trio will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, September 25, at 1 p.m. in the Berkshire Room at the Berkshire Dining Commons. Speakers at this week's luncheon will be UMass Marching Band Director Tim Anderson, and Head Football Coach Don Brown. Cost to attend is $16.25 ($14.63 for UMass Alumni).
Hughes scored a hat trick for the Minutemen in their 7-1 win against UMass Lowell in the Kennedy Cup and scored the winning goal against Brown to extend their win streak to three games and finish off the week 2-0-0. The reigning A-10 Offensive Player of the Year continued to climb the Massachusetts history books this week, as his four goals lifted him to second All-Time among the top goal scorers for the Minutemen with 42 on his career. He now trails only Jeff Deren ('03) by 6 goals.
Forward Chandler Pedolzky was a key piece for a Massachusetts women's soccer squad that earned a 1-1 record on the week. The Minutewomen dropped a 1-0 match to Saint Louis on Thursday, before defeating St. Bonaventure on the road, 1-0, on Sunday. Pedolzky tallied two points on the week with a goal in 139 minutes played. The Westfield, Massachusetts native accumulated seven shots with three on target. She scored the game-winning goal against St. Bonaventure and totaled five shots, including two on net in the contest.
