Massachusetts Hockey's Bohlinger Named Academic All-American For Second Time

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey 2024 graduate Aaron Bohlinger has been selected to the 2023-24 Academic All-America Men's At-Large First Team, College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Wednesday. The defenseman is one of eight members of this year's Academic All-America Men's At-Large First Team to earn the recognition for the second time as he was a second team honoree in 2022-23. He is the first individual in program history to receive the honor twice and the first UMass student-athlete to collect a first team nod since 2014.
 
Bohlinger, one of 13 honorees who posted a perfect 4.00 grade point average, is one of seven Division I men's ice hockey student-athletes on the Academic All-America Teams and the lone Hockey East representative on the squads, which consist of individuals from 10 eligible sports Division I men's sports (fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling). A total of 47 student-athletes were recognized.
 
Bohlinger, a finance major, appeared in 36 of 27 games in 2023-24 and totaled eight points on three goals and five assists and was +1 with 35 blocks. He also served as team co-captain for the Minutemen this past season. Out of eight career tallies for the Walden, New York native, one was the overtime winner in the 2022 Hockey East Championship and his first career goal was the game winner in the 2021 National Championship. Bohlinger helped the Minutemen win a Hockey East title in 2021, as well.
He is a three-time AHCA Krampade All-American Scholar and a four-time Hockey East All-Academic Team honoree while earning the prestigious honor of being named Hockey East's Top Scholar-Athlete the past three seasons.
 
Bohlinger is one of two individuals to earn Academic All-America status in program history as Martin Nolet '10, who earned the honor as a senior in 2010, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large Third Team.
