June 12, 2024 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts hockey has added 6-0, 181-pound left-shot forward Daniel Jenčko to its roster for the upcoming 2024-25 season, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Wednesday. The Humenne, Slovakia native, joins forward Cameron Dunn, defensemen Francesco Dell'Elce and Finn Loftus and goaltender James Norton as the fifth member of the Minutemen's incoming freshmen class.
"Daniel is a skilled European forward who can contribute offensively," said Carvel. "His hockey sense and skill allows him to see the ice and make plays. He will be a great compliment to our experienced forward group and be an offensive contributor for us during his time at UMass."
In his one season in the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2023-24, Jencko posted 20 points (9g, 11a) for the Youngstown Phantoms in 37 regular season games and had three assists over seven postseason contests. He spent his three previous seasons playing in Sweden as a member of the Malmö Redhawks (J18, J20) totaling 84 points (42g, 42a) over 105 games from 2021-2024.
On the international stage, Jenčko has represented his native Slovakia in various tournaments, totaling 25 points (13g, 12a) in 36 games. He earned a gold medal with Slovakia during the World Junior Classic (WJC D1A) in 2021-22.
