Minutemen Sit In Third After Day One Of The Atlantic 10 Championship

FAIRFAX, Va.- The University of Massachusetts men's track and field team sits in third after day one of the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Minutemen currently have 35 points while Rhode Island leads all teams with 70.

Highlights from competition:
  • Three Minutemen scored In the 3000m steeplechase including a pair of medals. Michael Norberg was the top UMass finisher, placing second with a season best time of 9:05.53. Matthew George Earned a Bronze medal in the event with a personal best time of 9:08.71 while Riley Cole picked up two points by finishing seventh.
  • Robert Carew won silver in the 10000m with a time of 29:48.00. The time is good for second all-time at UMass. 
  • Liam Ouellette added a point in the 10K as well, placing eighth.
  • Anthony Pizzano placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 162'.
  • Aaron Fishler and Jack Ngo both scored in the hammer throw, placing sixth and seventh respectively.
  • Joachim Ennoo added a point with an eighth place finish in the long jump.
  • Ethan Clark ran the fastest 100m sprint in the preliminary field. His finishing time of 10.67 is not only a personal best, but the sixth fastest 100m in program history.
  • Godot Gaskins will race in tomorrow's 400m finals after running the second fastest time in the prelims, crossing the line at 47.65.
  • Shane Grant and Colin Kirn both qualified for the 800m finals. Grant and Kirn finished fifth and sixth respectively in the prelims.
  • Alec Pascoe ran a personal best 400m hurdles to qualify for the finals. Pascoe finished in 54.57 to take third in the prelims.

The Minutemen will be back in action tomorrow morning for day two of the Atlantic 10 Championships.
