Gervasi records two home runs with four RBI in the loss.
UMass moved to 11-20 overall, including 3-6 in the Atlantic 10, as Fordham improved to 13-21 overall and 5-4 in the league.
Mike Gervasi led the team with two hits, recording two homers on the day, four RBI and two runs scored. It marked his ninth and 10th home runs of the season and second time in the year he registered two or more homers in one game. Kevin Skagerlind, Austin Burgess and Jack Peters each had one hit, while Burgess tallied an RBI. Skagerlind, Kyle Hoog and Burgess all contributed one run.
The Minutemen took an early 4-0 lead in the first. Skagerlind reached base after being hit by a pitch, before Hoog reached on a fielder's choice an Skagerlind advanced to third on a throwing error. Burgess singled through the left side to score Skagerlind and make it a 1-0 contest. Gervasi stepped up and clubbed a three-run homer to extend UMass' lead to 4-0.
Fordham got on the board with a solo long ball in the second, keeping the score at 4-1 through the fifth. The Rams plated two more runs in the sixth to get within one at 4-3. Massachusetts secured another run in the seventh on a solo home run from Gervasi for his 10th of the season and second of the day.
A three-run homer in the eighth frame helped Fordham take over the lead and close out the game with a 6-5 win.
Callen Powers (0-1) had the loss for UMass, going 1.2 innings with three runs allowed on four hits, one walk and a strikeout. Aric Berg (4-4) took the win for Fordham, giving up one run on as many hits and striking out two in three innings pitched.
Massachusetts continues its homestand with a midweek contest against Sacred Heart on Wednesday, April 17, at 3 p.m.
