UMass Shoots Season-High From Field, Falls To Saint Joseph’s 77-67

The Minutewomen shot a season-best 52-percent from the field led by a career-high 22 points from Alexsia Rose.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team shot a season-high 52-percent from the field but came up short on the road to the Atlantic 10 leading Saint Joseph's Hawks, 77-67. Alexsia Rose led the Minutewomen with a career-high 22 points as one of four UMass players in double figures. Bre Bellamy chipped in 12 points while Stefanie Kulesza and Kristin Williams each finished with 10.
UMass opened with a 5-2 lead after buckets from Williams and Bellamy. There was five lead changes in the first five minutes of action, including a Kulesza 3-pointer that gave UMass a 9-8 advantage. After the score was deadlocked at 12-12 with just under four to go, the Hawks put together an 8-0 run to end the first quarter with a 20-12 lead.
The Minutewomen answered a 12-2 run over 5:53 that saw the Hawks build a 30-18 lead with a 7-0 run that was capped off by a Lilly Ferguson layup through the foul with 4:58 to go in the half. UMass finished the quarter shooting a blistering 90-percent from the field, converting on nine of 10 attempts to pull within four at the break, 36-32. The Minutewomen finished the first half shooting 58-percent from the field and 80-percent from beyond the arc.
Tori Hyduke scored five consecutive points to keep UMass within four points at 47-43 with 3:55 to go in the third quarter. The Minutewomen shot 50-percent from the field in the frame, with the Hawks shooting 64-percent to outscore UMass by one in the 10-minute span and lead 52-47 heading to the fourth.
Rose knocked down a triple to make it a five-point game with 6:32 left, giving her 20 points on the night. Bellamy's second 3-pointer of the afternoon brought UMass within four before Williams followed with a triple of her own the next possession to make it 67-64 with under three minutes to go. Saint Joseph's answered with a quick 5-1 scoring run to go up 72-65 with 1:02 left before eventually closing out the game at the line to bring it to a 77-67 final.
