December 04, 2024 | Women's Soccer

It is the second consecutive season that UMass has had two or more players named to the All-East Region list.

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior midfielder Bella Recinos and graduate student defender Ella Curry were selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East First and Third Team, respectively, on Tuesday.

It marks the second consecutive year that two or more Minutewomen have been placed on the list. Recinos earned Second Team honors last year alongside former Minutewomen Fiona Kane, who was named to the Third Team.

Earlier this season, Recinos became the first Minutewoman in program history to garner the Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year accolade in back-to-back years. She also became the first A-10 player to collect the award in two consecutive seasons since Nicole Waters (Dayton) achieved the feat in 2014 and 2015. She also landed on the A-10 All-Conference First Team for the second straight year and was a member of the A-10 All-Championship Team.

Recinos started in all 21 games for UMass this year, accumulating 1,722 minutes on the pitch. She led the team with a career-high 23 points, while also leading the Minutewomen with a career-best 10 goals. She also added three assists on the season. The senior registered a team-high 45 shots, including a team-best 25 shots on goal. The Winter Park, Florida, native, tallied a team-leading four game-winning goals on the year, tying her for second in the A-10. Her 23 points tied her fourth in the league, while her 10 goals on the year tied her for second. Recinos also ranked fifth in the A-10 Conference with 25 shots on target. The midfielder matched a career-high four points, registering her first career brace at George Washington (10/3), notching the game-winner. At Saint Joseph's (10/6), she capitalized on her first career penalty kick opportunity, and in the A-10 Finals at No. 1 Saint Louis (11/10), she tied the game up with a goal in the first half.

Curry became the program's all-time career games played leader with 91 to close out her career with the Minutewomen. Additionally she earned a spot on the A-10 All-Conference Second Team for the first time in her career and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team for the second straight year.

Curry started in all 21 games for Massachusetts with 1,700 minutes played on the season. The Collegeville, Pennsylvania, native, recorded four goals and four assists for 12 points, and took seven shots, all on goal. She tied for first on the team in assists (four) and tied for second in points (12). The graduate student registered her first career multi-assist contest against Fordham (9/26) with a career-high two. She also posted her first career multi-point games with a goal and an assist against Rhode Island (9/29) to tally a career-best three points. Curry scored an olimpico goal and the only goal of the game in the A-10 Quarterfinals to advance the Minutewomen past No. 6 Loyola Chicago (11/2) to the semifinals match. She garnered the A-10 Offensive Player of the Year honor earlier in the season.

Led by seventh year head coach Jason Dowiak, the Minutewomen entered the postseason at the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament thanks to a 6-2-2 mark in league play.

Overall, Massachusetts finished 13-5-3 on the season, marking the most wins with Dowiak at the helm and most victories since 2011 (14). UMass also completed the regular season ranked No. 42 in the RPI rankings. The team reached the A-10 Championship for the eighth time in program history and for the first time since 2021.
