November 02, 2024 | Women's Soccer

Ella Curry notched the lone goal of the match, marking her fourth of the year.

AMHERST, Mass. – Graduate student Ella Curry scored the game's lone goal in the opening 45 minutes to help the No. 3-seeded University of Massachusetts women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 6 Loyola Chicago in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field.

UMass moves on to the A-10 Semifinals on Wednesday, November 6, with an opponent to be determined, as the remaining teams will be re-seeded for the next round. The contest will be played on the campus site of the higher seed with a time to be determined on ESPN+.

The Minutewomen improve to 12-4-2 overall and hold a 6-2-2 mark in the A-10, while the Ramblers finished the season with an overall record of 9-5-5 and a 4-2-4 record in the league.

Massachusetts got on the board early in the first half, as Curry scored at the 8:10 mark. Curry took a corner kick for the Minutewomen, sending it towards the box. The ball curled into the net untouched, as Curry notched her first career Olimpico goal.

The Minutewomen and Ramblers closed out the first half with two more shots apiece. In the second half, UMass' defense held strong to keep Loyola Chicago from scoring on its six shot opportunities. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza made a save with the only shot on goal in the final 45 minutes for the Ramblers.

Despite the win, Massachusetts was outshot by Loyola Chicago, 9-6, as the Ramblers placed three shots on goal to UMass' two on target. The Ramblers also had the slight advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.

Senior midfielder Bella Recinos tallied a team-high two shots, followed by four Minutewomen with one shot. Curry and graduate student forward Grace Pinkus each put their shot on goal.

Mendoza registered her ninth shutout of the season with three saves through the full 90 minutes. Loyola Chicago's Allison Deardroff played for 90 minutes in net, stopping one shot and allowing a goal.
