#3 Women’s Soccer Falls To #1 Saint Louis In A-10 Finals

Juliana Ryan, Emma Pedolzky and Bella Recinos were tabbed to the A-10 All-Tournament Team.
ST. LOUIS – No. 3 University of Massachusetts women's soccer fell to No. 1 Saint Louis, 3-1, in the Atlantic 10 Finals on Sunday afternoon at Hermann Stadium.
The Minutewomen move to 13-5-2 overall and finish the league with a 6-2-2 mark, while the Billikens improved their overall record of 14-1-6 and a 7-0-3 record in the A-10.
UMass becomes A-10 Runner-Ups for the third time in program history, while earning the feat for the second time with head coach Jason Dowiak at the helm. Massachusetts was a runner-up in 2011 and last in 2021 when Dowiak led his team to an 11-6-4 overall record and a 5-3-2 mark in the conference.
At the conclusion of the match, senior defender Juliana Ryan and senior midfielders, Emma Pedolzky and Bella Recinos were named to the 2024 Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team.
Saint Louis struck first early in the first half to make it a 1-0 game. Emily Gaebe took a pass from Hannah Larson before sending it to the bottom left of the goal at the 12:21 mark.
Recinos notched her 10th goal of the year to even the score up at 1-1 in the 36th minute. Senior forward Chandler Pedolzky played the ball across into the six-yard box, as Recinos got a touch with her left foot to chip the ball through a defender and int the bottom right of the net.
Despite the tie after the opening 45 minutes, the Billikens outshot the Minutewomen, 8-2. SLU placed three of its shots on goal, while UMass put both of its shots on target.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bell Mendoza kept the score knotted up at 1-1 with crucial saves, including a diving save at the 55:57 mark of the contest at the start of the second half.
At the 73:14 mark, SLU's Lyndsey Heckel broke the tie with a header goal to give the Billikens a 2-1 lead. Gaebe added to Saint Louis' lead with her second goal of the game in the 89th minute to give the Billikens the 3-1 win.
SLU led in shots, 16-6, over UMass, with a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Billikens also held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-5, on the day.
Six Minutewomen got a shot off in the contest with Recinos, Chandler Pedolzky and graduate student forward Grace Pinkus each placing their shot on goal.
Mendoza stopped played the full 90 minutes in net for Massachusetts, allowing three goals and making four saves on the afternoon. For the Billikens, Emily Puricelli stopped two shots and allowed one goal.
Massachusetts awaits the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, November 11 at 4 p.m., with the potential for an at-large bid in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament. The selection show can be streamed on NCAA.com
