Massachusetts Women’s Basketball Falls To George Mason, 73-52

Kristin Williams registered a career-best 20 points on the day.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's basketball dropped a 73-52 decision to George Mason on Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center. Junior Kristin Williams recorded a career-high 20 points.
Williams went 6-for-14 from the field, while going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and 4-for-5 from the free throw line. She added a team-high three steals, a block and an assist on the day. Bre Bellamy reached double figures, totaling 11 points, while tying for a team-high with five assists, along with Alexsia Rose. Stefanie Kulesza came down with six rebounds to lead the team.After a brief 2-0 George Mason lead, UMass went on a 6-0 run to take the lead. The Minutewomen maintained the lead throughout, finishing the first quarter ahead 21-18. Kristin Williams tallied six points alone, going 2-for-3 from the field, including hitting her two three-pointers. Bre Bellamy and Lilly Ferguson contributed four points apiece to hold the lead. The Patriots took over the second quarter, going on a 22-8 run to overtake the lead 40-29 heading into the half.
In the third, Massachusetts went on a 6-2 elapsing a minute and 41 seconds. The run was capped by back-to-back triples from Williams, as George Mason held the lead at 42-35. The Patriots maintained their lead, going on a 14-6 run to end the quarter ahead, 56-41. Williams scored 10 points in the third making 2-of-4 from the field, including two three-pointers, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. The final frame saw George Mason put up 17 points to UMass' 11, bringing the game to its final score of 73-52.
UMass plays its next two games on the road beginning with a Wednesday night tip at Davidson at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. The Minutewomen conclude the two-game road trip on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. at Rhode Island before returning home for a midweek matchup against La Salle.
