#3 Tennis Advances To A-10 Semifinals With 4-2 Victory Over #6 Davidson

Akimova clinched the match point for the Minuteowmen in the Quarterfinals Round.
ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 3 University of Massachusetts took down No. 6 Davidson College in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Campus. Polina Akimova clinched the match to advance the Minutewomen to the A-10 Semifinals.
The win moved UMass to 12-6 overall on the season, while Davidson finished the year with an 8-13 record.
The Minutewomen grabbed the doubles point to lead 1-0 in the match. Dylan Cannon and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul defeated Davidson duo Josie Schaffer and Savanna Kollock, 6-3, at court No. 3, before the Wildcats tied up the doubles competition with a 6-3 win at No. 2. Partners Mariya Krasakova and Melisa Senli fought back from a 3-4 deficit at No. 1 doubles, taking down Kavya Patel and Daniela Porges of Davidson, 6-4, to secure the point.
Senli kept the Minutewomen rolling, earning a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles over Davidson's Emma Heiderscheit, while Jonglertrakul extended Massachusetts' lead to 3-0 with her 6-2, 6-4, win over Kollock of Davidson at court No. 5. Davidson claimed its first two points of the afternoon as Porges won 7-5, 6-2 over Krasakova at No. 3, and Patel defeated Anna Napadiy in a three-set battle, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 at court No. 4, to bring the match to a 3-2 score, in favor of UMass.
With two matches remaining, Danielle Hack and Akimova notched first victories at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, before both falling in their respective second sets. Akimova downed Franny Shea of Davidson in her third set, to clinch the match point for Massachusetts at 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, to advance the Minutewomen into the A-10 Semifinals.
Massachusetts will face No. 2 Fordham in the A-10 Semifinals on Saturday, April 29, at 9 a.m., at the USTA National Campus.
