Massachusetts Tennis Readies For Two Matches On Saturday

The Minutewomen welcome Holy Cross and Bryant for two on Saturday, Feb. 25 to the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis returns to the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center for two matches against the College of Holy Cross and Bryant University. UMass welcomes Holy Cross for an 11 a.m. match and Bryant for 3 p.m. contest on Saturday, February 25.
Last Time Out
Massachusetts made a trip to New Jersey, taking on Seton Hall last Friday and Rutgers last Saturday. The Minutewomen went 1-1 on the weekend, winning 4-3 over the Pirates and falling 5-2 to the Scarlet Knights, respectively.
Against Seton Hall, UMass picked up the doubles point with wins at courts No. 2 and No. 1, to make it a 2-1 competition, as Seton Hall led with two default singles points. Melisa Senli knotted up the match with a victory at No. 2 singles. Danielle Hack secured the next point at No. 1, but the Pirates earned the point at court No. 3, making it a 3-3 match. Anna Napadiy clinched the match at No. 4 singles for the Minutewomen to come out on top, 4-3.
Starting the match at Rutgers down 2-0, due to two default singles points, the Scarlet Knights quickly notched the doubles point with a default point at court No. 3 and a win at No. 2, to lead 3-0. Napadiy and Mariya Krasakova gave UMass its only two points of the night at No. 4 and No. 3 singles, respectively, while Rutgers secured wins at courts No. 2 and No. 1, as the Minutewomen fell, 5-2.
Scouting Holy Cross
The Crusaders head into Saturday's match with a 3-1 overall record and are coming off a 7-0 sweep against AIC last Saturday. Holy Cross' other two victories came against Mount Holyoke and Saint Anselm and its only loss came from Stonehill in the fall.
UMass and Holy Cross met last season in Amherst, as the Minutewomen came out on top, 7-0.
Scouting Bryant
The Bulldogs are coming off a tight 4-3 victory over Siena last Sunday and have an overall record of 5-1. Bryant opened its season with a 7-0 triumph at Providence, before falling to Boston University. The Bulldogs have been on a three-match win streak, with their other two wins against Nichols and Brandeis, both by a score of 7-0.
Last season, the Massachusetts and Bryant squared off on the road with UMass winning 4-1 on the day.
Weekly Accolades
After posting a 4-0 weekend, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, Senli was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, February 7. The freshman is 2-1 in singles play, so far, this season, and 3-0 in doubles competition, partnering with Krasakova. The award marked a first of Senli's career.
