Recinos, Benitez Set To Compete With El Salvador In 2023 Road To Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup

Bella Recinos, Carolina Benitez and El Salvador begin competition on Wednesday, Nov. 29, against Martinique.

AMHERST, Mass. -  Junior midfielder Bella Recinos and freshman defender Carolina Benitez of the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team have been called up to compete with the El Salvador Women's National Team in the 2023 Road to Concacaf Women's Gold Cup. El Salvador begins competition on Wednesday, November 29, facing Martinique at Stade Pierre Aliker in Fort de France, Martinique.
 
The match between El Salvador and Martinique will be streamed on Paramount+ at 7 p.m. ET, before the team takes on Nicaragua on Sunday, December 3, at 3 p.m. ET, on Paramount+.
 
Team El Salvador competes in League B, Group B, and currently sits at the top of its division with four matches played and 12 points. Along with El Salvador, Honduras (four points), Martinique (four points) and Nicaragua (two points) compete in Group B.
 
Recinos, the 2023 Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year, started in 17 of 18 games for the Minutewomen this season, accumulating 1,247 minutes on the pitch. She led the team in points (19), goals (7) and assists (5), while also registering a team-high 35 shots, including a team-best 20 shots on goal. The Winter Park, Florida, native, tallied a team-leading four game-winning goals on the year, tying for second in the A-10 and 26th in the nation. Her 19 points ranked third in the conference, with her seven goals tying for third in the league. Recinos recorded a career-high four points with one goal and a career-best matching two assists, against Loyola Chicago (10/1) to be selected as the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week. Her lone honor of the season marked the first weekly award of her career. She also dished out two assists in the 5-0 shutout victory at Davidson (9/24).
 
Benitez started in six of 16 games for the Minutewomen and tallied one point on one assist this season. She dished out her first collegiate assist against Saint Joseph's (10/19).
 
The 2023 Road to Concacaf Women's Gold Cup serves as the qualifier for the 2024 Women's Gold Cup. The tournament closes with 28 matches to be played between November 29 through December 5. At the conclusion of the event, the top finishers in each League A (three teams) will qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Women's Gold Cup Group Stage. Furthermore, the second-place finishers in each League A group (three teams) and the first-place finishers in each League B group (three teams) will advance to the 2024 Concacaf Women's Gold Cup Prelims.
 
The inaugural edition of the Concacaf Women's Gold Cup will be played between February 17-March 10, 2024. The Final will take place on March 10, 2024, at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California. The 2024 Concacaf Women's Gold Cup will include the participation of 11 Concacaf Member Associations and four CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation) guests. Thus far, the United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay have qualified for the Group Stage, and El Salvador for the Prelims. The eight remaining Concacaf participants will be confirmed the first week of December after the conclusion of the 2023 Road to Concacaf Women's Gold Cup.
